High School Students Interested in Working on the MedBee

Are you interested in a career in the health care industry? Would you like to increase your chances of getting a scholarship to college at the same time you are working on your community service hours for graduation? Are you interested in working with Middle School students who also have an interest in health care fields?

If you answered yes to these questions, then you are at the right place.

The Maryland Senatorial District 37 MedBee is designed to spark interest in health care in middle school students and assist high school students in preparing for a role in the industry.

What will you do?

You will work with middle school students studying terminology related to health care, preparing them for participation in the annual MedBee.

What are the advantages for you?

Working with your guidance office, you will be able to obtain community service credit to apply toward your graduation requirements.

As a high school student, you can earn points toward the Richard Colburn Senatorial Scholarship, awarded each year to a graduating senior within the 37th District accepted by a Maryland institution of higher learning majoring in a health-related field. The scholarship will pay $1,000 per semester every year ($500 for 2-year institutions).

As you can see from the scholarship weighting, the more you help, the more credit you receive.

MEDBee seniors will find the federal scholarship application for 2009-2010 which is necessary for Seniors to fill out in order to be in contention for Senator Colburn's
scholarship at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov

What is your next step?

Contact your guidance office for assignment to a middle school student requesting assistance.
