The Federal Communication Commission right before the holiday released a draft notice of proposed rulemaking updating its Rural Health Care Program to meet the growing demand for broadband telehealth services. The draft order that came out Wednesday would waive the program’s $400 million cap on a one-time basis while considering a permanent expansion. The cap was exceeded in fiscal years 2016 and 2017. FCC seems to be signaling a pretty big expansion of its subsidies of broadband for rural health care providers. The agency will consider the proposed rulemaking at a Dec. 14 public meeting.
